Privacy Policy
Pantria is built for Canadian households. We collect only what we need, we never sell your data, and we comply with Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Law 25 (Law 25 on the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector).
1. Who We Are
Pantria ("we," "us," "our") is a Canadian progressive web application operated at pantria.ca. Pantria helps households track kitchen inventory, reduce food waste, manage expiry dates, scan groceries, plan meals, build shopping lists, and find the best grocery prices near them.
For privacy inquiries, contact us at: privacy@pantria.ca
2. What Information We Collect
During our pre-launch phase, we collect only the following:
- Email address — when you sign up for early access. This is collected with your express consent under CASL (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation) and used solely to notify you when Pantria launches.
Once the full application launches, we will update this policy to reflect any additional information collected at that time, including but not limited to pantry inventory data you voluntarily enter, household configuration preferences, and anonymized usage data used to improve the service.
We do not collect your name, payment information, precise location, government identification, or any sensitive personal information during the pre-launch phase.
3. Why We Collect It
Your email address is collected for one purpose: to notify you when Pantria is available. We will not send you marketing materials, third-party promotions, or any communication unrelated to the Pantria launch without your separate and express consent.
4. Legal Basis for Collection
We collect your email address based on your express consent, provided when you complete the early access form. This consent is consistent with the requirements of PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) and CASL (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, S.C. 2010, c. 23).
You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at privacy@pantria.ca. Withdrawal of consent will result in the removal of your email address from our records.
5. How We Store Your Information
Email addresses collected through the early access form are stored securely using industry-standard practices. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
We retain your email address only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected. Once Pantria launches and you have been notified, we will either obtain your renewed consent to continue communicating with you or remove your information from our records.
6. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose your personal information to third parties, except in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We may use trusted third-party services to store and process email addresses on our behalf (for example, an email notification service). These providers are bound by confidentiality obligations and may only use your information to provide services to us.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.
We will update this section with specific service providers at the time of launch.
7. Quebec Residents — Law 25
If you are a resident of Quebec, you have additional rights under Quebec's Law 25 (Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, RLRQ c P-39.1, as amended). These include:
- The right to be informed of the purposes for which your personal information is collected
- The right to access and correct your personal information
- The right to withdraw consent to the collection, use, or communication of your information
- The right to request the destruction of your personal information
- The right to be informed of any privacy incident that may affect your rights
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@pantria.ca. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Your Rights Under PIPEDA
Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Access your personal information and request corrections
- Withdraw consent to the collection and use of your information
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your privacy rights have been violated
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@pantria.ca.
9. Cookies and Tracking
Our pre-launch page does not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics. We do not track your behaviour across other websites.
10. Children's Privacy
Pantria is not directed at children under the age of 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you believe a child under 14 has submitted their information through our site, please contact us at privacy@pantria.ca and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We will update this Privacy Policy as Pantria grows and when the full application launches. When we make material changes, we will notify early access subscribers by email and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Pantria following notice of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have unresolved concerns, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for Quebec residents, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
